Located in the heart of the city, our temple is a sacred place for devotees seeking the blessings of Lord Khatu Shyam, also known as Barbarik, the symbol of unwavering devotion and strength. The temple is not just a place of worship, but a spiritual sanctuary where we come together to celebrate faith, share moments of peace, and experience the divine blessings of Lord Khatu Shyam.

    About Khatu Ji

            History of Khatu Shyam Mandir

After the Mahābhārata battle, Lord Krishna, in his divine wisdom, submerged the head of Barbarika in the river Rupawati, blessing it abundantly. Many years later, during the era of Kalyug, the head was discovered buried in a village in present-day Rajasthan. The location of this buried head remained hidden until after the start of Kalyug. One day, a miraculous event took place when a cow’s udder began spontaneously releasing milk as it neared the spot where the head was buried. Surprised by this occurrence, the villagers dug at the spot and unearthed Barbarika’s head. The head was then given to a Brahmin who, after performing rituals and waiting for divine revelations, was guided on what to do next.

The King of Khatu, Roopsingh Chauhan, had a dream in which he was inspired to build a temple and enshrine the head there. Following the dream, a temple was constructed, and the idol was installed on the 11th day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Phagun.
Another slightly different version of the legend mentions that it was Roopsingh Chauhan’s wife, Narmada Kanwar, who had a dream in which the deity instructed her to unearth his idol. The site where the idol was buried, now known as Shyam Kund, was then dug up, and the idol was found. It was later enshrined in the temple.
The original temple was built in 1027 AD by King Roopsingh Chauhan, following his wife’s divine vision. The idol was discovered at Shyam Kund, the sacred spot where it was buried. In 1720 AD, Diwan Abhaisingh, a nobleman, renovated the temple under the instructions of the Marwar king, giving the temple its present structure and enshrining the idol in the sanctum sanctorum. The idol is made of a rare stone. Khatushyam is the family deity for many households.
Another temple dedicated to Khatushyam is located in Vasna, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Here, devotees bring their newborn children to receive the blessings of Khatushyam, where he is also known as Baliya Dev.
